I have developed special mediations for each level of Reiki that I teach. One of the main components of these meditations is a breathing exercise where we take in beneficial energies as nourishment. The exercise and the full meditation is listed below:
Reiki I Meditation
As we begin, place your feet firmly on the ground and sit comfortably. Let’s take a few moments to focus on our breath.
As we focus on our breath, we will take in nourishing and beneficial energies from the universe. To take in an energy, simply call in the energy and say to yourself, “I am taking in the energy of (named energy).” I have listed some frequencies below as examples, but any named beneficial frequency is helpful.
The exercise below can also be used on its own. It is a helpful practice to intentionally take in beneficial energies each day. Practicing calling in patience, for example, can build a habit of reaching for patience whenever a situation is stressful, rather than simply reacting.
As we take in a nice, deep breath, intend that you are taking in the energy of peace. As you continue breathing normally, just observe the energy of peace. Does it have a shape, sound, color or other indicator that you identify it with? You can trust the energy of patience to flow freely in your body/mind/spirit because it comes when you call it to give you something you need right now.
1 – 2 minutes of silence.
If your interaction with the energy of patience has brought to your attention anything you would like to release today, have an intentional exhalation to let it go.
As we take in another nice, deep breath, intend that you are taking in the energy of gratitude. As you continue breathing normally, just observe the energy of gratitude. Does it have a shape, sound, color or other indicator that you identify it with? You can trust the energy of gratitude to flow freely in your body/mind/spirit because it comes when you call it to give you something you need right now.
1 – 2 minutes of silence.
If your interaction with the energy of gratitude has brought to your attention anything you would like to release today, have an intentional exhalation to let it go.
As we take in one more nice, deep breath, intend that you are taking in the energy of joy. As you continue breathing normally, just observe the energy of joy. Does it have a shape, sound, color or other indicator that you identify it with? You can trust the energy of joy to flow freely in your body/mind/spirit because it comes when you call it to give you something you need right now.
1 – 2 minutes of silence.
If your interaction with the energy of joy has brought to your attention anything you would like to release today, have an intentional exhalation to let it go.
Now that we’re centered and grounded, choose a sacred place. Your sacred place can be anywhere. A meadow. The top of a mountain. A seashore. A forest glade. Anywhere you choose is sacred because you are sacred. Though we have many different sacred places, we are energetically together. We are able to see each other with our inner eye as we sit, stand or lie, in a circle.
As we flow deeper into our quiet state, let’s give thanks to the Universe:
Universe, we are so grateful for the healing energy of Reiki that flows around us and that pours into our bodies with every breath. We come together today from many walks of life to share in the blessing of this universal healing energy, and are grateful that this energy is available to all of us at any time.

Now that we are centered and grounded, picture yourself in a peaceful meadow. You are completely safe in this meadow. Your meadow can look any way you like but there is a large, flat stone in the center. As we sit or stand in the center of the meadow, let’s picture a column of light, flowing right down the middle of our circle. The column flows straight up into the sky and straight down into the earth. It is balanced, both astral and grounded.
Let us hold our hands out to the light. Let us use our hands to form the light into a large ball in the center of our circle.
The power of the loving Universe, the “Rei” part of Rei-ki, is in the light.
Breathe in the light. Let it flow into your palms. Let it travel up your arms, into your head, down the front of your body. Let it flow over you and travel down the back of your body. As the light travels down your back, it flows around our circle and gathers once more in the center.
The harmony, Life-force and healing energies of the loving Universe, the “Ki” part of Rei-ki, are in the light.
Breathe in the light. Let it flow into your palms. Let it travel up your arms, into your head, down the front of your body. Let it flow over you and travel down the back of your body. As the light travels down your back, it flows around our circle and gathers once more in the center.
The Universal healing, balancing and harmonizing energy has infused our bodies. Now we are ready to learn how to share this energy with each other, with friends and loved ones. Think of a loved one and allow the energy to flow from the Universe, through you to them. That is all you need to do.
