Since Reiki level II teaches how to send distant Reiki, I created a meditation where we share energy with a butterfly. As you practice sharing energy, you can connect with other creatures using this outline. The beneficial breath exercise I posted for the Reiki I meditation is also included below.
The beneficial energies listed below are just examples, Any beneficial energy may be used.
Reiki Butterfly Meditation
10/15/09
As we begin, place your feet firmly on the ground and sit comfortably. Let’s take a few moments to focus on our breath.
As we focus on our breath, we will take in nourishing and beneficial energies from the universe. To take in an energy, simply call in the energy and say to yourself, “I am taking in the energy of (named energy).” I have listed some frequencies below as examples, but any named beneficial frequency is helpful.
The exercise below can also be used on its own. It is a helpful practice to intentionally take in beneficial energies each day. Practicing calling in patience, for example, can build a habit of reaching for patience whenever a situation is stressful, rather than simply reacting.
As we take in a nice, deep breath, intend that you are taking in the energy of peace. As you continue breathing normally, just observe the energy of peace. Does it have a shape, sound, color or other indicator that you identify it with? You can trust the energy of patience to flow freely in your body/mind/spirit because it comes when you call it to give you something you need right now.
1 – 2 minutes of silence.
If your interaction with the energy of patience has brought to your attention anything you would like to release today, have an intentional exhalation to let it go.
As we take in another nice, deep breath, intend that you are taking in the energy of gratitude. As you continue breathing normally, just observe the energy of gratitude. Does it have a shape, sound, color or other indicator that you identify it with? You can trust the energy of gratitude to flow freely in your body/mind/spirit because it comes when you call it to give you something you need right now.
1 – 2 minutes of silence.
If your interaction with the energy of gratitude has brought to your attention anything you would like to release today, have an intentional exhalation to let it go.
As we take in one more nice, deep breath, intend that you are taking in the energy of joy. As you continue breathing normally, just observe the energy of joy. Does it have a shape, sound, color or other indicator that you identify it with? You can trust the energy of joy to flow freely in your body/mind/spirit because it comes when you call it to give you something you need right now.
1 – 2 minutes of silence.
If your interaction with the energy of joy has brought to your attention anything you would like to release today, have an intentional exhalation to let it go.
This meditation also includes the use of three mudras. The first one naturally deepens your breathing. To do this mudra, touch the tip of your thumb to your first finger. Feel how your breath shifts to your lower abdomen.
The second mudra shifts your breathing to your ribcage. To do this mudra, touch all the tips of your fingers together. The third mudra shifts your breathing to your upper chest. To do this mudra, fold your thumbs into the palms of your hands and curl your fingers around them.
Now that we’re relaxed, let’s make a connection. To make a connection, we will first picture a certain creature, then we will draw our presence closer to it by imagining how it feels to be that creature. Take a few deep breaths and touch your first finger to your thumb, in the first mudra. Feel your breath shift to your lower abdomen.
Today, we’ll connect with a butterfly. Your butterfly can be big or small. It can be colorful or plain. It can be any kind of butterfly you want it to be. We can each be a different butterfly and still be together because we are all linked by the same spirit energy.
As we are picturing our butterflies, watch as our butterflies glide from flower to flower. Watch how the wings spread as it rides the wind. See the delicate balance as the butterfly lands on a flower, folds its wings together and drinks the sweet nectar.
Now let’s connect to our butterfly. To connect to your butterfly, bring your awareness closer, as if you are using a telephoto lens. As your butterfly drinks nectar from the flower, bring your awareness closer and closer, until your breath brushes the butterfly.
Now hold your breath for a moment and let your awareness slip gently into your butterfly’s body. Let your presence be quiet and respectful, flowing into the butterfly’s awareness like a stream joins a river.
Feel your breath shift as you breathe through your butterfly’s abdomen. Use the second mudra: touch all the tips of your fingers together and feel your breathing shift to your ribcage. Feel your vision shift to geometric patterns as you see through your butterfly’s compound eyes. Feel the softness of the flower petal beneath your butterfly’s six legs.
Taste the sweetness of the flower’s nectar on your tongue as your butterfly drinks.
Now we are ready for a shift. Feel the muscles in your back respond as your butterfly flutters its wings. Feel yourself lifting as the butterfly soars into the sky.
Feel the air holding you up and the warmth of the sun giving lift to your wings. Know that you can go anywhere. You can land on a unicorn’s horn or on the steeple of the Eiffel tower.
Know that though a butterfly’s life is short, that that is good, too. By sharing energy with you, the butterfly can live many lifetimes in a few short weeks. You, also benefit by seeing and experiencing many things that will be imprinted in your spirit thread—the key note that ties your soul to the Universe.
As your butterfly rises into the sky, you rise too. This rising experience can help you to contact your spirit guides. To breathe with your spirit breath, use the third mantra: fold your thumb into your palm and curl your fingers around it. Feel your breath shift to your upper chest.
This is your spirit breath. Let us rise for a few moments with our butterflies. Let us keep our awareness open and careful to welcome our spirit guides and receive any messages they have for us.
We’ll take five minutes to listen to our spirit guides.
——-FIVE MINUTES—–
Now our butterfly is landing. It rests on a wide green leaf and waits for our presence to recede. To gently remove your presence from your butterfly, use the first mudra: touch the tip of your thumb to your first finger again and taking a deep breath, gently pull your presence back into your body.
Now relax your hands, wiggle your fingers and toes to gently bring yourself back to the present.
We thank the Universe for the ability to experience many lifetimes in one. We thank the Ascended Reiki Healing masters Usui, Takata, Iris, Yamaguchi and Hayashi. We thank the spirit guides who spoke to us in this meditation. We thank our own spirits for being willing to experience what it is like to be a butterfly.
